Temprature rise in Summer 2025

The summer of 2025 in India was exceptionally hot, with temperatures in many regions exceeding 40°C. Climate change, along with a weather phenomenon known as El Niño, which brings hotter and drier conditions, are considered by weather experts to be the primary reasons for this intense heat.

Several states in central, eastern, and northern India experienced more heatwave days than is typical. Cities like Delhi faced even higher temperatures due to the urban heat island effect, where buildings and roads trap and intensify heat. Health professionals advised people to stay indoors during the hottest times of the day, consume ample water, and limit outdoor activities.

Simultaneously, some areas received significantly more rainfall than usual. For instance, Vidarbha in Maharashtra recorded over four times its average May rainfall. This early rain was attributed to thunderstorms and an early start to the monsoon season. Higher than normal rainfall is also anticipated in Jharkhand this year.

These unusual weather patterns, characterized by extreme heat in some areas and heavy rainfall in others, highlight the increasing unpredictability of the climate. Farmers and urban planners are finding it more challenging to prepare for such erratic weather. Sudden heavy rains can damage harvests and cause flooding, while extreme heat can negatively impact public health and strain power consumption.

People are adopting various cooling methods, such as using air conditioners, coolers, and fans, to cope with the heat. Staying informed about weather forecasts and heeding heat and rain alerts has also become crucial.

In summary, the summer of 2025 brought a combination of severe heat and unexpected rainfall, illustrating the significant changes occurring in our weather and the growing need for preparedness for future climate surprises. Taking care of both personal well-being and the environment is now more critical than ever.
